Join in and celebrate the joy of giving in India’s 10th Daan Utsav week!

The week-long joy of giving event is India’s biggest philanthropic festival. Individuals from all walks of life come together and, in a noble ‘act of giving’, give back in whichever way they please.

First launched in 2009 on Gandhi Jayanti day, Daan Utsav is a community venture to increase national happiness and well-being. It is one of the nation’s joint attempts to create a culture of generosity, compassion and unity.

Giving back is usually immediately associated with finances and donating money to NGOs. However, Daan Utsav is not exclusively focused on large donations or on promoting particular causes through NGOs.

Daan Utsav accommodates all kinds of giving, of different sizes, within the community. During the Utsav, many give in the form of small acts of kindness like volunteering or granting food rations to the less-privileged.

Here are five exciting and unique ways you can give this Daan Utsav:

  • 1,00,000 Hugs

Program: This Daan Utsav, HUG has launched the 1,00,000 Hugs campaign in which HUG collects cooked food from food establishments, individuals and excess executive meals from corporate houses. The collected food is then distributed to the poorest communities in Bangalore.

  • Rang de Jaipur

Program: A citizen driven week with various volunteer opportunities like painting, cleaning and plantation drives at Jaipur’s main Railway Station.

  • Beach Clean Up and Cloth Collection:

Program: HERE solutions is organizing a Juhu beach cleanup and a cloth collection drive. They are also organizing the voluntary painting of the Bandra station.

  • Topsy Turvy

Program:  Help out at a play area for underprivileged from various orphanages go to play. The children will be able to play and will be served food.

  • Greenathon

Program: On October 6, volunteers can walk a distance of 2 kilometers whilst planting 2,000 trees. The ‘Greenathon’ is being organized by Being Volunteer.
